Ambivalence
The grass is always greener, relationships require a lot of work, we’re often attracted to the people who are not good for us, breaking up is hard, living alone is harder, living with someone is the hardest…..I want to believe in ideal relationships but I keep getting slapped in the face with reality….We can be friends with perks…. He/she really turns me on but I know I can’t trust her/him…If only I could have more time to myself/if only I could share my life with someone I love….being sexy is good, but most sexy men/women are bad…Ok, hopefully I made my point here.
Relationships, sex, etc., it’s all very confusing, at least partially because we live in a society that is filled with contradictions about what is good and bad. These songs are about the search, then trying to decide if you should stay when you get there…The temptations, the rejections…ultimately we just hope to find that “Flower in the Desert”…..
