| Songwriter’s Forum |
Songwriters are a weird group when considered for the human similarities that make them songwriters. On the one hand, they are poets of a sort, but writing poetry doesn’t do it for them. What they want/need to express has to have that visceral musical context to be felt or experienced as the composer intends. They’re a bit more driven by the need for approval, since music by its very nature must be heard. It’s not enough to write it down, you want others to hear, and enjoy and/or appreciate the product. And they are very opinionated, very judgmental (although not in the normative sense) and very willing to give advice to others. Their songs are often a way of counseling the world about their experiences, or at least those that they have conceptualized. But they do not consider themselves nerdy or geeky, ‘cool’ is much more the image projected by the songwriter/musician.
All that is said as a way of prefacing what this forum should ideally be focused upon. And that is, your contribution/comment on the works of songwriters/musicians, including those on this site. Ideally it could serve as a forum for songwriters to discuss ideas, provide or seek feedback on works in progress, or the process of creativity in general. Philosophical perspectives would be welcome, including commentary on politics, economics, societal norms, etc., i.e. anything that effects our ability to live our lives in a meaningful and healthy way. Ok, so what is healthy? I’m not sure I know, do you? And what makes your life meaningful (or not)?
Lastly, it could be a forum for songwriting collaborations, with ongoing BS exchanged, partnerships formed, etc. And of course if there are any beautiful artistic ladies who want to seduce me, you could start here...
And so it goes... JB
